Government BranchesThis week in social studies we are focusing on our government. Students will need to know the following terms:
Constitution: A written set of laws that explains how a government is supposed to work. Executive Branch: Part of the government led by a mayor, governor, or president, that carries out the laws. Judicial Branch: Part of the government in which courts decide if laws are fair and match with the Constitution. Legislative Branch: Part of the government that makes laws. Governor: The leader of the state executive branch.

This week in social studies we will begin our unit of study on on Native Americans. We will focus on the Caddo, Comanche, Karankawa, and Lipan Apache tribes. The students will be assigned a specific tribe and will research their shelter, food, weaponry, customs, transportation, location, religious belief and determine if they were farmers or hunters. Click on the picture below for information! http://www.native-languages.org/texas.htm This week in social studies the students will be completing a quiz in class to finish up our Regions of Texas unit. As for homework, the students will be preparing for our next unit in Texas History: Native Americans! Your child will need to cut and decorate the silhouette that was sent home on Friday (9/27), to resemble a person from a native tribe of Texas. This will be due on Thursday, October 3rd.

Students will go on a learning tour through different classrooms where they will learn about the cities, climate and weather, plants and animals that live in each region. This week in Social Studies, students will have the opportunity to share their “Me Bag” with the class. We will have a discussion on the importance of community and how Texas itself is a community.
August 19-23rdThis week in social studies we are learning about each other as citizens of Texas! Students will have the opportunity to get to know each other better by creating a “Me Bag”. The bags are due on Friday, August 23rd and will be shared in class. Check your student's homework section in their planner for more details!
